Chandertaal baralachala trek is an old favourite of trekkers inLahul Spiti Region. The trek is recommended for all adventure souls who like snow and high mountains, irrespective of the prior experience. Starting from Batal Near chandertaal, chandertaal Baralachala pass  trek takes you through high dry mountains, crossing of Rivers called tokpo yongma and tokpo gongma, snow-covered mountains and some of the most splendid landscape making it one of the best treks for adventure seekers . The total trek distance is 64 km. Close to a height of 16000 ft, and enroute you can cross the beautiful lake called chander taal(moon lake) which is famous for its night view. The trek is blessed with varied terrain and breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains giving you a very thrilling and enriching experience.

Day01: Manali – Batal: 6–7 Hours Drive.

After the breakfast, we get into the jeep for the ride to reach Batal, crossing over Rohtang-La pass (3980 M), the landscape changing from green tree-line to barren mountains. Descending down to other side of the pass, we follow right-side path, which is gateway to the Spiti-valley.

Day02: Batal – Chandratal Lake (4270 M): 4-5 Hours

The trek from Batal to Chandratal is a comfortable trek along a motorable track. The views down the valley include the Barashigri Glacier and several peaks above 6000 mts. Camp at Chandratal which has fabulous views of Mulkilla, Tarapahar and Talagiri (all above 6000 mts). There is the option of spending an extra day at Chandratal to acclimatize. Overnight in tents.

Day03: Chandratal- Tokpo Yongma (4320 M) (6-7 hrs)

Hard trekking from Chandratal to the bank of the Tokpo Yongma (4350 mts). The track rises and falls over scree slopes till the camp site. It is usually quite cold here and good warm clothing is required. Overnight in tents.

Day04: Tokpo Yongma-Tokpo Gongma (4640 M) (6-7 hrs)

Trek along a lesser used trail to Tokpo Gongma (4650 mts). These trails are maintained by the shepherds who bring their flocks to graze in this area during the summer months. These shepherds are from a tribe called the Gaddi and travel all the way from their homes in Western Himachal to these grazing grounds every summer. They are invaluable to Overnight in tents.

Day05: Tokpo Gongma-Baralacha La (4890 M)- Surajtal (4-5 hrs)

Leave after an early breakfast. Follow a clear trail to the top of the Pass through lush green high altitude pastures. Later, getting down towards the surajtal, overnight stay there in tents.

Day06: Surajtal – Manali

The Pass is motorable and you will be picked up by jeeps and driven to Manali or alternately you can continue on a trek or a Jeep Safari to Leh in Ladakh.
